Topeka Breast Reduction

What is Breast Reduction?

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of the breast by removing fat, skin and tissue. Breast reduction is often combined with a breast lift, which counteracts drooping or sagging. Although most Kansas breast reductions are performed on women, some men with gynecomastia (the development of abnormally large mammal glands) also choose to undergo the procedure.

The goal of a breast reduction is to leave the patient with smaller, lighter and firmer breasts. The Baraban Board Certified Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon office can help you reach that goal no matter where you live. Staff members have assisted in Topeka breast reductions; Lawrence breast reductions; Manhattan breast reductions; Kansas City, MO, breast reductions; Kansas City, KS, breast reductions; and Olathe breast reductions, among others.

Is Breast Reduction Right for Me?

Women who undergo Kansas breast reduction tend to have large, pendulous breasts. Often, the weight of the breasts causes pain in the neck, shoulders and back. Even if physical discomfort is not a problem, many women choose breast reduction in KS because they feel that their breasts are too large for the rest of their body. They may have difficulty finding clothes that fit properly, have received unwanted attention due to their large breasts or simply feel self-conscious about their body shape.

Reduction mammoplasty is recommended for women whose breasts are fully developed and who do not plan to breastfeed in the future. If you think breast reduction might be right for you, then schedule a consultation with the Baraban office. The staff has experience with breast reductions in Topeka; breast reductions in Lawrence; breast reductions in Manhattan; breast reductions in Kansas City, MO; breast reductions in Kansas City, KS; and breast reductions in Olathe. During your consultation, make sure to ask about Topeka breast reduction before and after photos.

How are Topeka Breast Reductions performed?

Breast reduction in Topeka is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes between three and five hours. There are several incision options, including:

  • A circle cut around the areola and nipple (pedicle method)
  •  An incision around the areola, continuing vertically down the crease of the breast (vertical incision or LeJour incision pattern)
  • An incision around the areola, continuing vertically down the breast and then horizontally across the underside of the breast fold, forming an anchor-like shape (anchor method)
  • The surgeon will select a technique based on your breast composition, the amount of reduction desired and your personal preferences.

After the incision has been made, the surgeon removes excess breast tissue, including glandular tissue, fat and skin, through traditional surgical techniques or with liposuction. The remaining tissue may be sculpted or lifted. Before the incisions are closed, the nipple will be repositioned on the chest. Finally, the incisions are brought together over the now-smaller breasts and the sutured is closed.

What is Recovery Like After a Breast Reduction?

Once a breast reduction procedure is completed, a special surgical bra must be worn to support the breasts as they heal. Most women who have breast reduction in Topeka, breast reduction in Lawrence and breast reduction in Manhattan experience some pain or discomfort, along with swelling, bruising and tenderness, for the first few weeks. Wearing the surgical bra at all times can reduce swelling and discomfort. Most patients return to work and other daily activities within about two weeks, although strenuous physical activities should be avoided for a month following reduction mammoplasty. Some reduction in nipple sensitivity can be expected for several months following this procedure.

What are Topeka Breast Reduction costs?

Topeka breast reduction prices average between $5,000 to $7,000, depending on the extent of the surgery. If reduction mammoplasty is performed for health reasons rather than primarily cosmetic reasons, it may be covered by insurance.
